Farmington Canal Stroll And Roll

Farmington Canal Stroll And Roll

Now that warmer weather is finally here, Elm City Cycling and the Farmington Rail-to-Trial Association are leading the effort to increase awareness and use of the Farmington Canal and Heritage Trail by cyclists. The trial provides miles of safe, traffic-free riding along from New Haven through Cheshire.

The entire family is encouraged to come out to the trial on Sunday, May 22, 2011 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Information and food will be available at Bassett Street in New Haven where it crosses the trail. In addition to refreshments, there will be games for kids and handouts on cycling events throughout the greater New Haven area this summer.

The Farmington Canal is a great resource for cyclists. However, the trail is shared by rollerbladers, children, and pedestrians, some of who are walking dogs on leashes. Even though free from traffic, cyclists should always wear their helmets and keep a sharp lookout, especially when rounding blind corners.
