Top 10 Bicycle Safety Tips To Prevent Injury

Every year, bicycle accidents are responsible for number of serious injuries and deaths throughout the nation and Connecticut. From our offices in New Haven and Hamden, the Mills Law Firm, LLC represent injured cyclists throughout Connecticut. We not only represent bicyclists, but our lawyers are also bicyclists.

We use our 30+ years of experience in aggressively pursuing your claim for full and fair compensation for your injuries and loss. We feature Board Certified Trial Law Specialist (by the National Board of Trial Advocacy), Attorney John Mills. While we are here to represent you if you are injured in a bicycle accident, we would rather assist you in avoiding an accident—or limiting your injuries if you are involved in an accident. Accordingly, we are providing you with our top 10 bicycle safety tips:

  • Always wear a helmet, and make sure it is worn correctly.
  • Ride on the right side of the road, with the flow of traffic, not against it.
  • After age 10, do not ride on the sidewalk, as you are not readily visible when crossing streets and it is against the law in many municipalities.
  • Obey all traffic control signals.
  • Learn and use hand signals to alert motorists of your intention to turn, which is required by law in Connecticut.
  • Wear proper attire, including bright colors, and layer clothing in case of weather changes.
  • Always keep both hands on the bike ready to brake.
  • Do not pass on the right.
  • Use extra caution when riding on bike paths, as you may often encounter pedestrians or people walking dogs on leashes that can cut across the path.
  • Never ride your bike during a storm or when there is snow or ice on the roadway.
